Poetry in Motion in P7
The Poetry in Motion Schools Programme is an innovative literary programme for primary, secondary and special schools. More than 2000 young poets have participated in the programme since 2000. Poetry in Motion aims to develop creative abilities of young people and encourages them to use their creative imaginations. It introduces pupils to poetic devices and to a wide range of poetic forms. The workshops consisted of fun, joyful activities which foster self expression and self confidence.
The theme of this year’s Poetry in Motion programme is “Our World, Our Words”. This theme gives our young people space to explore their beliefs and experiences.
In class we have been working with a well known poet Diane Morrison. We compiled poems, listened to her poems, drafted our work and presented her with our final pieces. From these pieces she chose a few poems which will be published in an anthology later this year. Kinga and Ishola were the lucky two from the class whose poems really impressed Diane. Kinga’s poem is called ‘Cardboard’ and Ishola’s is ‘Christmas Candle’. We also submitted a class poem, ‘Human Prey’. The children will be videoed saying the poems and then viewed at the celebratory event at the end of the month. Well done to everyone involved, especially Kinga and Ishola!
Their poems can be viewed below.
